The DIN standard DIN 47100 regulates the color coding for marking the cores in telecommunication cables . The standard was withdrawn without replacement in November 1998, but is still widely used.

Color abbreviations are regulated in IEC 60757 or in DIN 47002, which was withdrawn without replacement in 2002 .
