Lombardini

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lombardini is an Italian manufacturer of internal combustion engines with headquarters in Reggio nell'Emilia . Lombardini is part of the US Kohler Company .

history

Together with his partner Pietro Slanzi , Adelmo Lombardini founded an engine production facility in 1922. Lombardini left this company in 1933 to open the Officine Meccaniche Fratelli Lombardini company together with his brothers Alberto and Rainero .

In the 1960s, the first foreign agencies were installed in France, Spain and Germany. Lombardine acquired the technology to build gasoline engines through the acquisition of ACME in Valdobbiadene near Treviso.

Lombardini was a family company until April 1999 when it was sold to US automotive supplier Mark IV Industries . At the end of the same year, Lombardini acquired Italian rival Ruggerini.

Lombardini has been owned by the Kohler Company since June 22, 2007 as Lombardini Srl a Socio Unico a Kohler Company .

Position on the market

Lombardini describes itself as the world's third largest manufacturer of diesel engines up to 50 kW. The Lombardini group includes a number of subsidiaries (e.g. sales companies in France and Germany), Lombardini Marine (builds boat drives mainly based on Lombardini engines). In addition, a number of former competitors in Italy, most recently Ruggerini and ACME, have been taken over over the years.

The motors are used as built-in motors for a wide variety of drive purposes, for garden machines, construction machinery, forklifts, pumps, power generators, light vehicles and also for motorcycles . The focus was / are smaller agricultural equipment, since around 2005 smaller construction machines have been gaining in importance.

The main competitors were mainly Italian small engine manufacturers (e.g. Ducati, Ruggerini, ACME-Motori). At the end of the 1980s, Lombardini had introduced new water-cooled engines, so that the established manufacturers of these engines (all Japanese) joined as competitors. Since then, Lombardini has also been more active in small construction machines, e.g. B. Vibration plates are used, the German company Motorenfabrik Hatz is also a competitor of Lombardini in some areas .

In the beginning there were water-cooled engines and tractors until the engines below were introduced (starting with 3LD).
