The DIN standard DIN 824 of the German Institute for Standardization regulates the standard-compliant execution of the folding of technical drawings in a more suitable format for filing. Here, drawings of the formats A0 , A1, A2 and A3 are folded onto the format A4. The larger the paper size, the greater the number of folds required. The folding of a sheet in A3 format to A4 format is done exclusively using longitudinal folds. With original formats of A2 and larger, transverse folds must also be used in addition to the longitudinal folds. A distinction is made between folds for filing in binders, where an edge must protrude from the perforation (Form A or DIN 824-A) and folds for filing without stapling (Form C or DIN 824-C). With all folds, the writing field lies completely on the cover side and can be read without turning or unfolding.
