DK recycling and pig iron
The DK Recycling and pig iron GmbH , formerly of Duisburg copper mill was in 1876 as a consortium of ten companies in the chemical industry in Duisburg established. This makes DK probably the oldest industrial recycling company in the world.
The purpose was the processing of metal-containing residues (gravel burn-off) from sulfuric acid production . Today, DK describes itself as the world's largest recycler of iron-containing residues from the steel industry and the European market leader for pig iron foundry .
Nowadays, DK operates a sintering plant and two blast furnaces with a working volume of 580 and 460 cubic meters with almost 300 employees. The latter acts as a substitute should the main furnace come to a standstill.
