The DTCN L5 is a French torpedo .

Emergence

The Direction Technique des Construction Navales (DTCN) began developing this torpedo in the 1960s. The L5 version of the torpedo can be used by surface ships and submarines . A lighter variant L4 is used by aircraft. Both versions are equipped with a Thomson CSF active / passive panoramic search head. This allows the torpedo to execute various pre-programmed attack profiles. This can be a direct attack on an underwater or surface target or an automated search for certain sonar profiles , which are then automatically attacked. The disadvantage is the short range of the electrically powered torpedo. It led to the development of the DTCN F17 .
