DUK pension fund

The DUK e. V. (umbrella association of support funds for German hospitals), founded in 1994, is a pension fund active in the health sector , which is primarily active in eastern Germany. The association advises its member companies on issues relating to company pension schemes. In addition to classic old-age provision, the DUK also offers occupational disability insurance and pensions for surviving dependents. Together with the AUPU e. V. (General Support Fund for Private Sector Enterprises), he looks after more than 1,200 member companies, 950 of which are hospitals. Overall, the two pension funds look after over 200,000 employees. The total retirement benefit amounts to more than 1.85 billion euros.

history

At the beginning of the 1990s, a discussion broke out in the municipal clinic in Görlitz about setting up a company pension scheme. The decision-makers at that time spoke out in favor of a congruently reinsured benefit fund and the first regional, job-specific benefit fund was founded on January 12, 1994. In other regions of the republic, such group benefit funds also came into being. True to the motto “Together we are strong”, on October 11, 1994, the various benevolent funds merged to form the umbrella association of benevolent funds for German hospitals e. V. (DUK e.V.). In order to achieve synergy effects in times of rapidly changing political, legal, economic and social framework conditions on December 1, 2001 the DUK pension fund e. V. founded. One of the largest private pension schemes in Germany was created on September 21, 2004, the DUK e. V. celebrates its 10th anniversary in the press and visitor center of the federal government. Among the well-wishers were Angela Merkel (CDU) and the then Federal Minister for Health and Social Security Ulla Schmidt (SPD). On September 1st, 2009 the DUK e. V. celebrates its 15th anniversary. At the ceremony in the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin, u. a. the then Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg , as well as the managing director of HELIOS Kliniken GmbH, Francesco De Meo, to the beginnings of the pension scheme and gave an outlook regarding future development.

Implementation ways

As a provider of indirect implementation channels for company pension schemes, DUK e. V. in the development of individually designed supply solutions on the following implementation routes:

  • Relief funds supply: The supply of workers of a sponsoring undertaking (employer) is a provident fund handled / carried out.
  • Direct Insurance System: The direct insurance is an implementation method in which the employer concludes a life insurance by group or individual contract for its workers.
  • Pension fund provision: In contrast to the relief fund , the employees are insured through the pension fund itself and not through the sponsoring company.
  • Pension fund provision : Provision via pension funds has been a possible implementation method since June 26, 2001, which is not subject to the restrictions of life and pension insurance. By investing in the capital market, there are supposedly better opportunities for returns and, due to price fluctuations, higher risks than with conventional supply channels.
  • Riester funding: The Riester pension, which can be traced back to the German politician Walter Riester , is a state-sponsored, privately financed pension.

Bodies

To realize and pursue the purposes of the association set out in the statutes, the DUK e. V. of the following bodies:

  • Board of Directors: The chairman and his five deputies are elected by the general assembly. The executive board is responsible for the permanent management of the DUK e. V.
  • Advisory board: People from politics, science, business and social organizations represent the interests of the DUK in politics and are involved in the ongoing development of the pension fund.
  • Technical committee: The technical committee consists primarily of managing directors and board members of the member companies. In particular, the members of this body advise the DUK pension fund e. V. in fulfilling the purpose of the association.
  • Personnel manager conference: At the annual meeting, the personnel managers of the member companies discuss innovations in company pension schemes and their implementation.
  • Workers' forum: This body represents the interests of workers. It serves as a platform for exchanging experiences and a space for interaction.
