DYWIDAG-Systems International (DSI) is a global technology group in the construction and mining sectors. DSI Holding GmbH is based in Munich .

history

DSI was founded in 1979 as a subsidiary of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG for the worldwide marketing of licenses for DYWIDAG products and systems. The business focus was initially in civil engineering, with the market segment post- tensioning technology and geotechnics. In 2000, DSI started a second business area in the underground mining sector with the development, production and sale of products and systems for mining and tunneling. With the merger of Walter Bau AG and DYWIDAG to form Walter Bau-AG combined with DYWIDAG in 2001, DSI was also taken over into the new group. DSI's German civil engineering business was controlled centrally by DYWIDAG-Systems International GmbH with branches in Nauen, Langenfeld, Königsbrunn, Unterschleißheim and Munich. In 2002 DSI acquired Suspa Spannbeton and spun off the German business to SUSPA Spannbeton GmbH, which operated as SUSPA-DSI GmbH until 2009.

In 2004 the company had a turnover of 300 million euros with 1,100 employees. After Walter Bau went bankrupt, DYWIDAG-Systems International was taken over in 2005 by the financial investor Industri Kapital for EUR 168 million, which in 2007 sold DSI to CVC Capital Partners for more than EUR 1 billion. In 2006 the focus on new business areas in the field of tunnel construction and concrete accessories began. In 2007 the DSI network comprised around 90 companies, holdings, licensees and agents. In 2009, due to the economic crisis, sales fell by 27 percent to 518 million euros. The subsidiaries SUSPA-DSI and contec then merged with DYWIDAG-Systems International GmbH, Germany, and ALWAG Tunnelausbau Ges.mbH with DYWIDAG-Systems International Ges.mbH, Austria. In 2010, DSI was taken over by BAML (Bank of America Merrill Lynch) and Barclays Capital and sold to Triton Private Equity on April 1, 2011 for more than 400 million euros.

In 2010 the company employed a total of 2,118 people who generated sales of EUR 620 million, 45% of which was in engineering and 55% in underground construction. The business activities in the area of civil engineering and underground mining are focused on the regions EMEA , North America, South America and Asia-Pacific.

All underground mining activities for the EMEA region are concentrated on DSI GmbH in Pasching / Linz, Austria (formerly ALWAG Ges.mbH). At the same time, DSI Austria acts as a competence center in the development and application of high-quality and innovative mining and tunneling systems.

The DSI business in the South America region was restructured at the beginning of 2009. For this purpose, the companies DSI Chile Industrial Ltda. (Santiago, Chile), Protendidos DYWIDAG Ltd. (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and DSI-Fosminas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) combined with DSI Peru (Lima, Peru) to form a unit operating on the South American market.

The civil engineering and underground mining markets are regional. DSI's global presence is therefore based on a decentralized corporate structure. DSI is represented worldwide with its own DSI companies, licensees and agents in over 90 countries.
