There Himmegugga

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Da Himmegugga (Bavarian for: "Der Himmelgucker") is a Bavarian play by Anna Elfriede Ringsgwandl . It was written in 2002 and the world premiere took place on August 19, 2006. The 1,000th performance was on June 6, 2016 in the Riedering theater tent. The 1,300th performance is scheduled for the end of 2019. A cancellation of the piece is not planned.

The play

The play Da Himmegugga mixes elements of popular theater with slapstick interludes, performances by hand puppets and a song sung live. This title song mixes a central motif of the piece with pop rhythms to create an effective "catchy tune". It tells the story of an eccentric and inventor of bizarre everyday devices. He is at the mercy of his village environment, which is why he withdraws more and more from people and the world and instead seeks contact with the inhabitants of space. He persistently tries to use light signals to induce reactions, because he hopes that they will provide the answer to the question of meaning that plagues him. The setting is his workshop full of crazy inventions and “useful” junk (the stage set should consist of over 1,000 individual parts in a very small space). The "Himmegugga", as his nickname, plagues not only the question of meaning, but above all annoying neighbors, curious children and repeated phone calls, from which he likes to take refuge on the sofa under the covers. Only his daughter Maria sticks to him, cares and helps him with all his crazy things. When NASA calls, it is clear that the light signals have been noticed and aliens are on their way to him. The meeting only works when they hear Mary's song. She sings it in all languages, including in Bavarian at the end , which is the decisive factor for her appearance: A heavenly emissary, surrounded by spherical light effects, stands in the middle of the workshop and answers Josef Hufnagl, the "Himmegugga," his agonizing one Ask about God and the world. The wisdom from space like: ... forgive the mistakes of others, then you will find God in yourself, bring Josef Hufnagl back into normal life and among people.

occupation

The main role of Himmeguggas was played by Sebastian Huber, graphic artist, actor, theater and children's book author from Breitbrunn. In 2018, Uli Bauer was added to cast the lead role. Among other things, he was a double in the annual TV broadcast from Munich's Nockherberg.

Maria Imania (* 1981) has played the main female role since 2006, predominantly with the sole cast. Imania is the daughter of the playwright Elfriede Ringsgwandl and lives in Berlin. She composed the title song.

The theater tent

In 2002 Erwin Ringsgwandl set up a theater tent with around 100 seats in Ecking. Da Himmegugga was performed in this tent until the end of 2011, and the tent and the piece were twice part of the Tollwood Festival in Munich. For her new big play “Gsindlkind”, Anna Elfriede Ringsgwandl had a four-masted palace tent set up south of Riedering in August 2011 with an area of 600 square meters. The Eckinger tent found its place under its roof as the original performance location and second stage. Thanks to multiple optimization of the seating and access, there is not much left to see from the old tent, apart from the unmistakable stage design. E. & E. Ringsgwandl GbR employs around 50 people at the new location in the Riederinger theater tent, including professional actors such as Manfred Stecher and Sebastian Fischer .

Awards

The "Himmegugga Theater" was awarded the City of Rosenheim's Culture Prize in 2017. In 2018, the play "Himmegugga" was awarded the Upper Bavarian Culture Prize.
