Daddy DJ is a dance and singing formation from France and consists of band members David Le Roy, Jean-Christophe Berval and Charly Merkiled.

history

Jean-Christophe Berval worked as a lecturer at the French sound engineering school in Paris, where David Le Roy was studying. The two got on so well that they soon founded Daddy DJ. The third band member was Charly Merkiled, who comes from Martinique and worked there in his youth on the school radio.

The debut single "Daddy DJ" landed at number 2 in the French charts, stayed there for ten weeks and achieved diamond status . In autumn 2001 the song made it to number 7 in Germany and to number 8 in Austria. The song was also a hit in several other European countries. In Switzerland , the single only reached number 22 in the charts, even with the follow-up singles The Girl In Red , which reached number 41, and Over You , which reached 96th place, Daddy DJ was not really successful here.

The track Daddy DJ has been covered several times to date. The melody in the songs All I Ever Wanted by Basshunter and Take It to the Limit by Max K. and Gerald G! sampled. The cover versions could mostly follow the success of the original or even achieve higher chart positions.

In 2012 the band tried a comeback with the album / folder . A remix of the old Daddy DJ hit was also released on the British Clubland sampler. The success of these new releases, however, failed and the band is largely a one-hit wonder to this day .
