Dagpo Dratshang Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dagpo Dratshang ( Tib . : dwags po grwa tshang ) or Dagpo Shedrubling ( dwags po bshad sgrub gling ) monastery is a monastery in the Dagpo area in southern Tibet . It is located in Gyaca County (Gyatsha) in the northeast of Shannan County (Lhoka).

The monastery was originally a Karma Kagyü monastery belonging to the Shamarpas , and in 1589 the 6th Shamarpa Chökyi Wangchuk was enthroned here. Later in the 17th century this facility - like many other Karma Kagyu monasteries in Tibet - was converted into a Gelugpa monastery with the help of Mongolian troops . Many of the original buildings, including the most important temples, have been preserved, and the debate courtyard has recently been renovated.

An abbot of the monastery, the 7th Gyelse Rinpoche Dönyö Chökyi Gyatsho (Tib .: rgyal sras don yod chos kyi rgya mtsho ), was the first abbot of the Monguor monastery Gönlung Champa Ling ( dgon lung byams pa gling ; Chinese Youning Si ) in Amdo .
