Dagpo , also Dakpo , is a region in the southeast of Ü , Kongpo and Lhasa in Tibet . The story of Dagpo is described in the Blue Annals and is of great importance to the Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism . The region is described because of the many Tibetan monasteries and because of its famous monks. The 13th Dalai Lama Thubten Gyatsho was born in Dagpo.

Gampopa

The monastery of Daglha Gampo was founded in Dagpo in 1121 by Gampopa , the "doctor of Dagpo" (1079–1153), a student of Milarepa , the ancestral monastery of the Dagpo-Kagyü branch of the Kagyü school tradition.

According to Gö Lotsawa , the author of the Blue Annals , Gampopa was ordained in Dagpo by Shepalingpa ( Shab pa pgling pa ), the founder of Shepaling Monastery . This is the first monastery mentioned in the Blue Annals regarding Dagpo. After his ordination, the young Gampopa traveled to the Lower Dagpo, where he got to know the Samvara cycle and the corresponding text, Rinchen Gyendrukma ( rin chen rgyan drug ma ), from the teacher Maryul Lönden ( mar yul blo ldan ). All of this happened before Gampopa heard of Milarepa , according to the Blue Annals .
