Dalbe (artists' association)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The artist group dalbe was a permanent association of young visual artists from Magdeburg and the surrounding area. It was founded on October 6, 1948 in Magdeburg against the background of the formalism debate in the presence of Katharina Heise and Arno Meng . The group described itself as an association of artists who "progressively represents a contemporary, [sic!] Formal language ." Based on the spelling customary at the Bauhaus, (almost) only lower case letters were used when drawing up the founding deed . Whether the discrepancies in lower case letters are intentional or an oversight cannot be clarified beyond doubt.

Goals of the group

The ideological goals of the group were “educational” through their artistic work, “to help shape the world order” and “to be a bridge [between the working people and] the high goals of art”. Practical goals were the promotion and education in companies as well as the organization of exhibitions.

The admission of new members to the group was definitely welcome, but was subject to a vote by a “composed committee”. Overall, there was a relatively strictly organized group. B. the first board member ( chairman ) had to come from the five founding members of the group.
