Daliborka (front) and Black Tower

The Daliborka is a Gothic fortification tower of Prague Castle that was used as a hunger tower . It is named after the first inmate, Dalibor von Kozojedy .

The round tower is located at the northeast corner of the castle and connects to the famous Golden Lane . In the basement there are four prison cells with a dungeon below. The Bohemian King Vladislav Jagiello had the tower built in 1496 by builder Benedikt Ried . Two years later, the knight Dalibor, who had been convicted of robbery, was locked in the tower and executed. Smetana's opera Dalibor is based on the subject. The art patron Franz Anton von Sporck was also imprisoned in Daliborka. It served as a prison until 1781. After a fire that year, the tower was reduced by one floor to five.

The tower is open to the public and contains an exhibition for embarrassing questioning .
