Danesh ( Persian : دانش; DMG : Dāneš ; German : "Knowledge") is the title of seven different Persian-language magazines that have been published since 1882. This bi-weekly science magazine was the first and was published in Tehran in 1882 by the University of Dār al-fonūn . A total of 14 issues were published by order of the Minister of Science ʿAlīqolī Khan Moḵber-al-Dawla , who worked under Nāṣer-al-Dīn Shah (1264-1313 / 1848-1896). In IranDāneš was the first magazine that was available free of charge and printed advertising for free. The magazine's aim was likely to fill the void left by the dissolution of the well-known science magazine Rūz-nāma-ye ʿelmī . The chief editor was Moḥammad Kāẓem, a science teacher at Dār al-fonūn who had studied in Europe. Besides Kāẓem, other teachers published articles on scientific and medical subjects, as well as their own opinions. The Ministry of Science also used the magazine as a mouthpiece for its official news.
