Daniel Calleja y Crespo is a Spanish EU official who has been Director General of the European Commission's Environment Directorate since 2015 . Before that, he was Director General of the Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry from 2012 .

Daniel Calleja Crespo studied law and economics at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid . He joined the Legal Service of the European Commission in 1986. From 1995 to 1999 he was head of the cabinet of EU Commissioner Marcelino Oreja . From 1999 to 2003 he held the same position for Commissioner Loyola de Palacio . As director for air traffic (2004 to 2011) he negotiated the open skies agreement for the EU . He then served as Deputy Secretary General of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General. Between February 2012 and August 2015 he took over the management of this authority. Since September 2015 he has headed the General Environment Directorate.
