Daniel Sampaio

Daniel Sampaio (* 1946 in Lisbon , Portugal ) is a Portuguese psychiatrist and family therapist , university professor and writer.

Live and act

Daniel Sampaio is the brother of Portugal's former President Jorge Sampaio , spent the first 15 years of his life in Sintra and then returned to Lisbon with his family. There he attended the Liceu Pedro Nunes , where he also graduated from high school.

From 1964 to 1970 he studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and in 1976 he specialized in psychiatry . He received his doctorate in medicine in 1986. He was later appointed full professor of medicine and psychiatry at the medical faculty of the University of Lisbon and worked at the Hospital Santa Maria in the field of crisis intervention in adolescents and young adults.

He is the founder of family therapy in Portugal and founded the Sociedade de Terapia Familiar in 1979.

As an author, Sampaio can boast more than 22 books, the subjects of his books include the areas of family, youth suicide, drug addiction, growing up.

A secondary school is named after him in the town of Sobreda : Escola Daniel Sampaio.
