The Danubius Hotels Group is a Hungarian company based in Budapest . The group of companies includes 46 spa, wellness and city hotels in Hungary , Great Britain , the Czech Republic , Slovakia and Romania with a total of 7780 rooms. The Danubius Hotels employ 4,313 people.
history
Danubius Hotels was founded in April 1972 by the then Ministry of Internal Affairs to shape and develop Hungarian spa tourism. The state-owned company began its activities with the Grand Hotel Margitsziget and the Hotel Helikon in Keszthely, as well as with the building permit from Hilton Budapest. On July 31, 1991 the group of companies was privatized and converted into a joint stock company and in December 1992 the shares were listed on the Budapest Stock Exchange. In 1996 the company successfully applied to the real estate agency for 85% ownership share of Hungária Szálloda Rt. (HungarHotels), whose share was increased to 100% in 2004.
Expansion into other European countries began in November 1999 with the purchase of Hotel Villa Butterfly (Marienbad, Czech Republic), and one year later with the purchase of 65% of the shares in Léčebné Lázně as (Marienbad, Czech Republic). As a result, 31 properties, 4 health resorts and 40 thermal springs became the property of Danubius. With the purchase of a 67% stake in Slovenske Liecebne Kupele as , Danubius expanded into Slovakia in 2002. In summer 2004 Danubius became a co-owner of LL Partners , which includes well-known restaurants and hotels. These proportions have been increased to two thirds of the total to date.
Currently (as of Jan. 2012) the value of the Danubius Hotels is estimated at EUR 312 million.
