Danuta Wałęsa

Mirosława Danuta Wałęsa (born February 25, 1949 in Krypy near Węgrów ; née Gołoś ) is the wife of the former Polish union leader Lech Wałęsa and was the Polish First Lady during his tenure as President from 1990 to 1995 .

Career

Gołoś married the then shipyard worker Wałęsa on September 8, 1969. The marriage had eight children, including Jarosław Wałęsa (* 1976), now a member of the European Parliament.

On December 10, 1983, Danuta Wałęsa accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on behalf of her husband, who feared he would not be allowed back into the country if he personally received the award .
