Dario Volonté

Darío Volonté (born September 1, 1963 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine opera singer (tenor).

Life

Volonté took part in the Falklands War at the age of eighteen and was one of the survivors of the sunk warship General Belgrano . Upon his return, he joined a church choir. It was there that José Crea discovered him , who taught him for free while he earned his living as a van driver. He later completed his training with Vittorio Terranova in Milan.

He made his debut at the Festival de Música at the Opera de Buenos Aires in Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca . In 1998 he appeared in Verdi's The Troubadour and A Masked Ball in Belgium and the Netherlands , followed by appearances in Don Carlos in Bologna, Tosca , Der Bajazzo , Manon Lescaut and Fedora at the Teatro Regio de Turín , Lucia di Lammermoor at the Zurich Opera House , and Der Korsar in Trieste and Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

In 1999 he made his debut at the Teatro Colón in Héctor Panizza's opera Aurora . The Asociación de Críticos Musicales de Argentina named him in 2000 as the best singer of the year. At the 1999 Wexford Festival he performed as Vassili in Siberia .
