In this game, the player controls a demon hunter whose task it is to eliminate various demons and the undead and to capture their souls for later use. After the opponent dies, a so-called catch weapon is used. The game character is moved through different areas, thematically based on typical horror environments, and has to defend himself against a constant overwhelming number of opponents. Smaller puzzles and access restrictions complement the real-time combat sequences. The day and night modes of the game are also important, as they influence the type of scenarios in the various areas.
The specialty of the game is the player's weapons . They are created with the help of Seeds (initiate the growth process of a weapon) and Oum (determines the type of weapon bred) and can be upgraded, upgraded and further developed with the captured souls with regard to the type of damage done. In addition, the weapon becomes stronger through the experience gained from hunting monsters. This allows longer volleys to be fired with it before it has to regenerate ( volley length and energy regeneration depend on the weapon type). There are six basic forms of weapons, including one for close combat, which can be developed in different ways into a total of 31 different weapons. The player can always carry three weapons at the same time and switch back and forth between them with the push of a button.
In addition, the game offers the possibility to use the link cable to compete against a second player with his weapons in specially existing arenas.
