Darkwood
Darkwood is a German Neofolk band from Dresden .
history
The band has consisted of Henryk Vogel and the cellist Nadja Stahlbaum since it was founded . Since Necessfeuer (2006), Darkwood has been supplemented by Manuela Zankl ( accordion , accompanying vocals ) and Valentin ( violin ). In addition, various guest musicians contributed their assistance on individual pieces.
Darkwood have been performing in front of a live audience since 1997. In the past, Andreas Ritter ( Forseti ) or Markus Wolff ( Waldteufel ) helped out in addition to the normal cast.
With the collaboration Song of Fighters: A tribute to DARKWOOD from 2015, on the occasion of the band's twentieth anniversary, various Neofolk bands recorded cover versions of Darkwood pieces.
style
Until the release of the album Herbstgewölk , the music ranged between acoustic instrumentation and borrowings from martial-industrial . After 2004 the style shifted more towards neo-folk instruments such as the guitar and the violin. Both melancholy and calm as well as combative, quick-tempered pieces are presented.
In terms of text, Darkwood take up historical, nature-mystical or pagan themes and set poems by poets such as Georg Trakl or Otto Ernst to music .
