Loanith Dovecot

The Kreditith Dovecot is a pigeon tower near the Scottish city of Cardross . It is located on the land of the listed loanith house to the west and is located directly on a dirt road that used to be a major road. The pigeon tower was completed around 1790. In 1971 he was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

It is a four-story pigeon tower with a rectangular base and a base area of 6 m × 4 m. While the two lower floors of the tower, which tapers towards the top, follow the rectangular floor plan, the upper two are round in shape. The tower ends with a slate-covered conical roof topped by a weather vane. The building is made of quarry stone. Both sandstone and igneous rock were used here. Individual spots show remains of plastering in the traditional Harling technique. The edges of the lower two floors are offset by the use of corner stones . The window openings are bordered with ashlar stones. The upstream entrance area consists of a wide opening, which may not correspond to the original state and was later expanded. A decorative gable can be found above this. The tower has various wall openings for the pigeons to enter. Several windows are now closed by walls.
