Darling Violetta is an American band from Los Angeles , California . Their music is characterized by a combination of dark, atmospheric dream pop with modern rock music and occasional cello interludes .
The band was best known for using one of their pieces of music as the theme music for the American television series Angel - Jäger der Finsternis as well as for integrating their music in two computer games for the role-playing rules Vampire: The Masquerade ( Redemption (2000), Bloodlines (2004 )).
history
After they became aware of each other through an advertisement in a music magazine, Cami Elen and Jymm Thomas began performing as a duo in coffee houses and on open stages to perform some self-written pieces. When they had collected enough usable songs, they looked for other musicians, who they found with drummer Steve McManus and bassist Atto Attie, and then founded the band Darling Violetta. The band name refers to the address with which Bela Lugosi introduced the letters to his lover Violetta Napierska . In the absence of a second guitarist, they added cellist Gerri Sutyak to their line-up.
In February 1998 the debut album Bath Water Flowers was released , which was first distributed by the band itself and then by the Californian label Opaline Records . A short time later, the American screenwriter and director Joss Whedon became aware of the band when he saw them performing in a nightclub. Enthusiastic about their music, he invited the band to record two songs ("Cure" and "Blue Sun") for an episode of his television series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer . For Angel - Hunter of Darkness , the offshoot of this series broadcast from October 1999 to May 2004, Darling Violetta was also allowed to record the theme music. The popularity of these series subsequently had a significant impact on the band's popularity. In the same year there were also contributions to the soundtracks of various films such as Fahr zur Hölle Hollywood ("Anastasia Says") or No Rest for the Wicked ("Numb").
In February 2000 the band released the The Kill You EP . The song "I Want to Kill You" contained therein was used for the soundtrack of Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption , the first part of the Vampire: The Masquerade computer game series. The soundtrack of the second part of the series, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines , was also given the title "A Smaller God" from the second and, for the time being, last album Parlor , which was released in February 2003 .
Apart from a few live appearances, the band has been inactive since then. The release of another album, announced for 2009, also failed to materialize.
