The Austrian Health Service - ÖKZ has been a monthly Austrian specialist journal for the hospital and health system that has been published since 1960 .

The monthly medium was founded in 1960 as a "communication organ for the entire hospital system" and is the leading medium of the Austrian health system with a focus on structures, management and organization in the health system; Funding, innovation and reform; Health policy and patient orientation. In the meantime, the paper operated as the Austrian Hospital Newspaper .

The number of readers is around 32,000. A 2005 reader survey found that 69.5 percent of healthcare executives read the ÖKZ every month; a survey of Austrian hospital managements carried out by the Competence Center Health Care in 2008 confirmed the paper as the most widely read specialist medium in this target group.

The ÖKZ has been published by Schaffler Verlag since 2003 . The publisher is Roland Schaffler, the editor-in-chief is Elisabeth Tschachler. From issue 12/2003, all ÖKZ articles are also available to subscribers in an online archive.
