action

Rick can't believe his eyes when a whole family of ghosts shows up one morning. The ghosts are hoping for help from him, because they are in an awkward situation: Their old haunted castle is to be converted into a holiday park. With central heating, something like that isn't good for the ghosts. Now they are left without a home. What will become of them? Rick and the clever Barbara help them. So it happens that Rick and his ghosts go on an adventurous journey to visit the Prime Minister in London . There they demand a “ghost reserve” from the prime minister, which protects the ghosts' living space and in which they can live peacefully. Lord Bullhaven generously offers the spirits shelter on his lands in Scotland. But then Lord Bullhaven doesn't turn out to be generous at all. He's working to destroy everything that doesn't fit Britain, and in his eyes the spirits are foreigners. The spirits have fallen into a trap. Only Rick can save her. But how are they supposed to make the arduous way to Rick, when they are already badly weakened? Will Rick still make it or is he late?

main characters

People

  • Rick: The helpful and adventurous boy who wants to house the ghosts. He thinks a lot about the issues of climate and species protection.
  • Barbara: Is the only girl in the boys' school. She is allowed to attend classes because she is the cook's daughter and the cook is important for the school. A very smart girl. She doesn't pay attention in class, but when the teacher asks a question, she knows the answer. She helps Rick find the ghost reserve.

Ghosts

  • Humphrey: He's a cute ghost with pink ectoplasm. He immediately befriends Rick. His parents worry that he will never get scary. But he tries to get Rick during the exorcism.
  • George: He's a screaming skull. He is the brother of Humphrey.
  • Winifred: She's a ghost who complains all the time. That is why she is also called "the wailing Winifred". She always complains because she wants to wash off her blood stains with a bowl of water that floats in front of her. But it never reaches the bowl. She is the sister of Humphrey and George.
  • The floating kilt: a ghost whose legs were chopped off in the 1388 Otterborn War. There is a sword in his chest. He is the father of Humphrey, George, and the wailing Winifred. His wife is a witch.
  • The Witch: She is the mother of George, Winifred and Humphrey. Your body always gives off some disgusting smell. She worries about Humphrey because he's not terrible and loves her husband, the floating kilt, very much.

Remarks

  1. Ectoplasm is the stuff that spirits are made of
  2. Exorcism is the form of casting out spirits. The spirits become weak and turn into nothing.
  3. If you try to bury a screaming skull, it will scream until you take it out again
