The hessenquiz with Jörg Bombach (until January 2016: The great Hessenquiz ) was a guessing program related to the different regions of Hesse , which was broadcast regularly on hr-fernsehen from 2005 to 2019. The winner of the quiz won a trip; the retired candidates received a consolation prize. The broadcast was pre-recorded in the television studio 1 of the Hessischer Rundfunk in the Funkhaus am Dornbusch in Frankfurt am Main.

From February 28, 2016, the program was broadcast from a renewed studio decoration designed by the internationally renowned set designer Florian Wieder . From this point on, the official title of the program was only "hessenquiz".

procedure

There were three rounds of questions in the game, each with five (six in the third round) questions on different topics. There were four possible answers to each question with one correct answer. Candidates had 15 seconds to think about it before entering their answer into the computer. The candidates received 50 points for the correct answer. Two jokers were available to each of the candidates. The first was the audience joker, in which a spectator was randomly selected from the audience to help the joker's setter. If the answer was correct, the viewer won € 50. The second joker was the risk joker that any candidate could bet if he was well versed in a topic. The question was only put to this candidate. If he gave the correct answer, he received 150 points, otherwise 150 points were deducted. After each round of questions, the player with the fewest points was eliminated and received the game for the great Hessen quiz or the book for the great Hessen quiz . If there were several with the lowest number of points, they were asked an estimation question. The winner of the Hessen quiz received a trophy and won a trip.

First round

The first round of questions consisted of relatively easy questions.

1. City / Country / River
This question had a geographic background. For example, the locations of cities, names of mountains and border rivers were asked about.
2. Power and doers
This question was about the current political situation, the former rulers of Hesse or districts, or Hessian companies and acquisitions.
3. Gossip and people
Sensational topics and such as can be read in the gossip newspapers were asked about. This also included bizarre relatives of well-known Hessen or events like the documenta.
4. Forget-me-nots
The penultimate question of the first round was about past events or old buildings with almost forgotten facts. The origin of a name was also often asked.
5. Dialect
For the last topic, the meaning of a dialect word or saying was asked.

Second round

1. Where am I? or what am I?
The candidates were shown a film in which passers-by described a city in Hesse by naming sights or historical events. During the film, the candidates were able to get together and give their tip for the solution. If the answer was correct, 150 points were awarded, if the answer was wrong, nothing was deducted, but the candidate was no longer allowed to participate in this question and was in the dark and the other two candidates had the opportunity to find the correct solution while the film continued. If all three candidates answered incorrectly, there were no points for the question.
Elementary school students from Hessen described a fairy tale to the candidates. Only information and key data of the fairy tale were mentioned. If all three candidates answered incorrectly, the question was not scored.
The following rule also applied to both variants: If the film ran to the end and no correct solution was given, it was turned into an open question, and 50 points were awarded for the correct solution. Again, only those candidates who were still in the game during the film were allowed to guess.
2. Power and doers (see first round)
3. Gossip and people (see first round)
4. Forget-me-nots
A video of a historical moment was shown here, about which one was asked a question afterwards.
5th dialect (see first round)

Third round

1. Animal sound
The first round began with an animal sound that was played and for which the other two candidates had to guess the cause.
2nd to 5th (continue as in the previous rounds, starting with city / country / river)
6. Dialect
In contrast to the previous rounds, a video sequence was played in which a Hessian spoke a sentence. The question then dealt with the statement of this sentence. To resolve the issue, the sequence was repeated, but with subtitles in High German.
