Dash lead Zoe

Dash Führ Zoe (original title: Daz 4 Zoe ) is a dystopian novel by Robert Swindells from 1990. It is about a love affair between two young people from strictly separate districts. The narrative perspective changes between the two young people, whereby grammatical and spelling mistakes are characteristic for the perspective of the materially disadvantaged Daz.

action

The story takes place in the UK of the future. At this time the rich live in the suburbs, separated from the poor. The groups refer to each other as Subbies (from Suburb, English for suburb) and Chippies (from Chips, English for French fries). Domestic Security separates the two groups.

Zoe May Askew is a 14-year-old girl who lives in Silverdale, an affluent suburb of the run-down town of Rawhampton. One day she illegally drives with friends downtown to go to clubs. There she meets Daz, a 15-year-old boy whose real name is Darren Barraclough. The two fall in love, even though Daz wanted to join the illegal dred that aims to kill Subbies. Zoe wants to see Daz again and has problems at school because she considers Chippies and Subbies to be the same. Daz also gets into trouble when the Dred find out that Daz used the tunnel to visit Zoe in Silverdale.

Finally, Zoe comes under Domestic Security's sights and is questioned to find out if she is a member of FAIR. FAIR (Fraternal Alliance for Integration through Reunification) is an underground organization with the aim of reuniting Chippies and Subbies. As it turns out, the parents of Zoe's friend Tabitha Wentworth are members of this organization. As a result, they are expelled from Silverdale and Daz kills a member of the Dred who planned to ambush the Wentworth.

When Zoe's parents decide to move to Peaceheaven, she flees to Daz. Daz's mother is not enthusiastic about the new guest and Domestic Security starts looking for Zoe. Daz first hides this in the basement and then in the attic of the school of his former teacher, Mr. James. Mr. James lives in Silverdale and teaches in town. He is a member of FAIR and tells Zoe that her great-grandmother is the head of FAIR there. In the meantime, Daz learns that the Dred have traced the murder back to him and are looking for him.

When Domestic Security searches the school, Zoe goes to the other students who run outside and is able to escape. She then goes back to Daz's apartment, where she is caught by the Dred. These bring Zoe into the basement to lure Daz out of his hiding place there. When he finally shows up, Cal, the leader of the Dred, wants to torture him. At that moment, however, Domestic Security appears and a shootout breaks out, in which Daz and Zoe escape. In the end, the two of them make their way to the Wentworths' house.
