Data warehouse process

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The data warehouse process ( English data warehousing ) is the process for managing and evaluating a data warehouse , which includes the following steps:

  1. Data acquisition: that means the extraction of the relevant data from the source systems, transformation and, if necessary, data cleansing in a work area as well as loading into the data warehouse. This step is also called the Extract-Transform-Load-Process (ETL-Process).
  2. Data storage: that means long-term storage of the data in the data warehouse
  3. Supply and data storage of the separate data stocks required for the analysis, the data marts
  4. Data evaluation by analyzing the data in the respective data mart or supplying downstream application systems

The repository , which is supplied with metadata in the ETL process in particular and is used in particular for the analysis of the data, is involved in all steps .
