Datel (UK company)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Datel (formerly Datel Electronics) is a British computer and electronic products company that was best known in the 1980s for its wide range of hardware products and accessories for home computers .

These included As a replacement keyboard for the home computer Sinclair ZX Spectrum , the PlusD disk interface and the Action Replay - system .

The owner of Datel is the Briton Mike Connors - not to be confused with the US actor Mike Connors .

Datel still uses the reverse engineering process to manufacture gadgets and accessories for the most popular game consoles. There are always legal disputes with the platform owners Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. These take the view that certain accessories - e.g. B. Controllers & Memory Cards - need to be officially licensed by them.

On the one hand, this ensures the security of the platform and is also a source of income for the platform owner.

In November 2009 Microsoft released an update for their Xbox 360 to exclude the use of the much cheaper and much higher capacity Max-Memory cards.

Even after another update in April 2010, it is not possible to access more than 10 GB of memory with official memory cards or USB sticks  .

Since January 2010, a new revision of the datel memory cards has made it possible again to address blocks of 512 MB, a total of up to 16 GB, and to exchange them with the PC via microSD cards.
