Continuous wave

The term continuous wave means:

  • In radio technology: the high-frequency transmitter is switched on without interruptions. The term continuous bar comes from the bar symbol in Morse code .
  • In laser technology and with particle accelerators: The beam is generated without interruption, i.e. continuously, in contrast to pulsed lasers or pulsed accelerator operation. See also continuous wave .
  • With some types of power plant, one speaks of continuous wave power , in contrast to systems with output power that changes over time, such as solar power. See power plant # base load power plant .
