Dave Kilminster
Dave Kilminster (born January 25, 1962 in England ) is a British progressive rock guitarist, singer, composer and music teacher.
Appearances
Kilminster is known for appearing with Keith Emerson (since 2002) and with Roger Waters on his The Dark Side Of The Moon tour (2006-2008), where he did much of the guitar and vocal work that actually was David Gilmour was responsible. 2010–2013 Kilminster played on Roger Waters' The Wall Live tour. He also played with John Wetton (ex- King Crimson ), Ken Hensley (ex- Uriah Heep ), Qango (an Asia spin-off), The Nice and Carl Palmer .
In 2015/16 he accompanied Steven Wilson on part of the “Hand. Cannot. Erase. ”Tour.
biography
Dave Kilminster started playing the piano early. In 1976 he chose the guitar as an instrument; in his youth he also made experiences with singing in a barbershop quartet, which gave him a solid background for later singing activities.
He started his active career in 1991 and in the same year won the “Guitarist of the Year” award for the instrumental piece Sundance in a competition organized by Guitarist Magazine. A little later, Kilminster was asked to go to the Guitar Institute in Acton (London), including writing exam and course materials for Trinity College and Thames Valley University.
Kilminster currently teaches at the Academy of Contemporary Music at Guilford and also teaches Guitar Break which hosts weekend events in the UK. He has published a number of instructional DVDs for Roadrock's Licklibrary. Kilminster has written over 200 articles for Guitar Techniques magazine.
Style and techniques
Kilmister plays usually left-handed (he is naturally left-handed ), but after he was injured during a go-kart accident, he began to play right-handed. He is widely known as a good teacher and an excellent technician in pull-off , tapping , hammer-on, and sweep picking . In 2004 Kilminster re-released his acoustic guitar album "Playing with Fire". Scarlet, a rock album, with Kilminster on guitar and as a singer with drummer Pete Riley and bassist Phil Williams, was published in 2007. Kilminster writes all of the lyrics and the music.
Private
- Kilminster is friends with Guthrie Govan , the guitarist in the Downes / Payne-led band Asia (2001-2006); they played together on several gigs during the 1990s and occasionally worked at "The Bassment" in Chelmsford, Essex (UK) on evenings hosted by the jazz fusion ensemble "The Fellowship". Govan and Kilminster last worked together at the International Music Show at London's ExCel Arena on June 14, 2008, where Kilminster played songs from his album Scarlet before joining Govan and his band to play songs from the album Erotic Cakes .
- Kilminster has long been with the English songwriter Anne-Marie Helder , he also co-produced her first solo album The Contact (2004), and she sings the background voices on his 2007 debut album Scarlet .
