Dave Wakeling (born February 19, 1956 ) is a British musician. Wakeling is best known as a singer in the music groups The English Beat and General Public .

biography

Wakeling was a founding member of The English Beat in 1979. In addition to his role as a singer, he also played the guitar. After the band split up in 1983, he and his bandmate Ranking Roger General Public founded, which would last until 1986.

In 1988 he released a solo album under the title No Warning . It was based more on the pop sound of General Public than the hard ska sound of The English Beat. The single She's Having a Baby also appears on the soundtrack to the John Hughes film of the same name . The single I Want More even made it to number 11 on the US charts in 1991.

In 1994 there was a renewed collaboration with Ranking Roger when a song was recorded for the Einsam Zweisam Dreisam soundtrack. A new General Public album was released the following year, but it sold poorly. Thereupon General Public separated again.

When touring, Wakeling often calls the backing band either General Public or The English Beat. Since 2003, The English Beat has performed irregularly with the original line-up.
