David Gunn (composer)

David Ross Gunn is an American composer and humorist.

Life

Gunn began his musical education in piano and percussion at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and studied composition at Ohio State University . In 1992 he received the first of a dozen commissions from the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble ("A Song, a Dance and a Spizder"), which recorded a CD with sixteen Gunn compositions from 1997-1998 under the title Somewhere East of Topeka .

He received further composition commissions a. a. from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra , the Vermont Youth Orchestra , the Essential Music group , the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra and the Social Band . He composed several musical pieces for the performances of Ray Bradbury's Pandemonium Theater Company . He was in addition to more than a decade Dennis Báthory-Kitsz co-director of the radio show Kalvos & Damian's New Music Bazaar , with the 2000 Deems Taylor Award of ASCAP award.

Gunn is also known as the author of more than four hundred radio essays and a humorist. He also regularly adds humorous comments to his often ironically broken, often parodic compositions. By his own admission, he lives in Barre / Vermont at the same time and hopes for (in that order) peace on earth, goodwill among the people and a lot of money in the bank.
