Dennis Báthory-Kitsz

Dennis Báthory-Kitsz (born March 14, 1949 in Plainfield / New Jersey ) is an American composer.

Báthory-Kitsz composed more than a thousand works, including music for sound sculptures, electroacoustic and multimedia works, acoustic installations, ballet music, works for solo instruments and orchestra and chamber music. In the World Trade Center in 1977 his chamber opera was Plasm over Ocean listed. The interactive performance work Echo for solo performers, handcrafted instruments and computers was presented in Vermont in 1985.

Examples of his installation works are In Bocca al Lupo at the Yellowstone Art Center (1986) and the outdoor installation Traveler's Rest in Vermont in collaboration with Fernanda D'Agostino . His vampire opera Erzsébeth was performed at Castle Cséjthe, the residence of Elisabeth Báthory . For the "radio cyber show" Kalvos & Damian's New Music Bazaar (with David Gunn ) he received the 2000 Taylor Internet Award from ASCAP . In 2001 he directed the Ought-One Festival of NonPop and is the founder of the NonPop International Network .

Báthory-Kitsz composed commissioned works a. a. for Su Lian Tan ( Shahmat for flute solo), FlynnSpace ( LiquidBirds for three theremins and video), P. Kellach Waddle ( NorthSea Balletic Spicebush for double bass solo), Michael Manion ( bales, barrels & cones for drums and playback) Jiri van der Kaay ( Phylum Euphoria for euphonium and playback) and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra ( Icecut ). Concerts dedicated to his work took place in Amsterdam in 2003 and in Ghent in 2005.
