Jan David Simon, 3rd Viscount Simon (born July 20, 1940 ) is a British peer and politician ( Labor ).

life and career

Jan David Simon was born on July 20, 1940 to John Simon, 2nd Viscount Simon , and inherited the title of Viscount Simon on December 5, 1993 . He holds his seat in the House of Lords even after the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force , as he was elected by the hereditary nobles. Since 1998 he has been Deputy Chairman of Committees . Since 1999 he has been deputy speaker of the house.

He is the vice-chair of the following groups:

  • Astronomy Group , since 2000,
  • Transport Safety Group , since 2005,
  • European Secure Vehicle Alliance Group , since 2006,
  • Road Safety Group , since 2007

Since 1999 he has been a member of the foundation board of the Guild of Experienced Motorists and the Road Safety Charity . A year later he became president of the Driving Instructors Association .

He has been married to Mary Elizabeth Burns since 1969. They have a daughter together.
