David Winnie

David Peter Winnie (born October 26, 1966 ) is a retired Scottish football player and coach.

Athletic career

Winnie made his adult debut for FC St. Mirren in the early 1980s . He established himself as a core force in the defense of the club, with whom he reached the final of the national cup in 1987 . On the side of Neil Cooper , Paul Lambert , Frank McGarvey and Tommy Wilson he was in the starting lineup when Dundee United with a goal by Ian Ferguson by a 1: 0-final success was defeated. When the club was relegated from the first division in 1991, he moved within the country to FC Aberdeen . There he drew attention outside the league, so in December 1993 he moved to Middlesbrough FC on loan . In England, however, he could not convince and returned to Aberdeen in early 1994.

After his contract expired in 1995, various positions followed for Winnie within a very short time. He was initially under contract with Heart of Midlothian for one season before returning to St. Mirren via Dundee FC in 1997. In the summer of 1998 he left the country again and joined KR Reykjavík in Iceland. After being named Iceland's Footballer of the Year at the end of the year , he spent the winter break beginning in October on loan with Ayr United in Scotland. He also left Iceland in the winter of the following year, this time playing for Canberra Cosmos in Australia.

At the end of 2000, Winnie ended his active career in Iceland and moved to the dugout as an assistant coach at KR Reykjavík. In 2001 he took over the post of head coach on an interim basis. In the summer of 2002 he took over the coaching position of the Scottish second division club FC Dumbarton . After he was with the team in the relegation battle, the club replaced him with Brian Fairley .

Winnie studied law and is now admitted as a solicitor . He specializes in sports law.
