Son of david

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title of the Son of David is one of the most important sovereign titles of Jesus in the New Testament of the Bible . It goes back to the Natan prophecy in 2 Sam 7:13. The title of the son of David is ambiguous: on the one hand, the predicate of the son of David makes clear the descent of Jesus, which results from the list of descent in Matthew (1, 1-17) and Luke (3, 23-28), on the other hand it shows hope of the people who hope for a deliverer or redeemer.

The person of King David of the Tanach has been idealized in this title. David is said to have united the twelve tribes of Israel and created a great empire . In addition, he is said to have set up a bureaucratic apparatus for the administration and a standing army and prepared the construction of the temple for the ark of the covenant . The New Testament people expected Jesus to free them from Roman occupation and establish a strong Israeli state with a real king (Herod was despised as "King by the grace of Rome").

background

Jewish texts from the time before and after the birth of Christ tell of the expectation that the Messiah will come from the house of David. When Jesus is referred to as the son of David in the New Testament, this is based not only on genealogical information ( family tree of Jesus ), but rather on a hope that has found its fulfillment.
