De Sota races

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The De Sota race was a trotting race with a sensational outcome on the trotting track in Gelsenkirchen ( GelsenTrabPark ).

prehistory

On May 1, 1964, there was a sensation in the supporting program for the price of the fastest in the last race. The twelfth and last race of the event was the De Sota race, endowed with DM 2,500 , which led over a distance of 1,800 meters. 14 five-year-old horses came to the process (start). Due to the rainy and cool weather, the slag track was meanwhile in a softened condition. Race day seemed to be over, as most of the visitors had already started their way home. The really big odds did not happen that day, the highest odds in the winning bet in the first race with 76:10 were paid to master (76 DM profit for 10 Mark stake).

event

Feldjäger started the race with Eddy Freundt in the sulky as the favorite for the winning goal of 24:10 (today 2.4 for € 1) and, together with a group of three other participants, had to give the rest of the field a 20 meter lead (band start). The Deutsche Traber Zeitung named Agi and Olesta as co-favorites , even though the text began as follows:

" The strong field naturally opens the door to surprises."

After the disqualifications of Ettalia and Nettrums first there was a sensational run-in. The outsider Flacon with W. Dahmen in the sulky prevailed against his competition on the home straight and easily won with a three-length lead in the kilometer time of 1: 28.6 (1 min. 28.6 seconds). The second horse was the mare Närrin , who entered the race as the greatest underdog (Siegtoto 2948: 10). Half a length behind was Hilos (Siegtoto 1472: 10) third horse. Fourth horse with a short head (distance) was Edelfürst (victory score 1204: 10). Only then did the favorite Feldjäger cross the finish line with Eddy Freundt.

After the final result was confirmed, the race management had to announce that the three-way bet was neither made in the correct nor in any order . The winning totals (odds in the win bet) paid for Flacon 588: 10, in the place bet 66:10. The place bet for fool pays 166: 10, for Hilos 214: 10. In the two-way bet there was the then sensational odds of 38976: 10 (38.976 DM for 10 Mark stake, at that time the payout record in Gelsenkirchen). For the basic stake of 2.50 DM, a bettor was paid the proud sum of 9,744 DM.

By way of comparison: the VW Beetle cost DM 4,290 on November 1, 1964.

The triple bet was paid for the correct determination of the winner and the runner-up (the betting pool was not played in a jackpot as it is today ). The rate of 28368: 10 was obtained for the combination of bottle and fool .

Trivia

The name De Sota race was derived from the Italian stallion De Sota , who won the Prix d'Amérique in the Hippodrome de Vincennes in Paris in 1938 and 1939.
