De Haan's Bus & Coach is a company that was founded by the brothers Luit and Nicolaas de Haan in 1951 in Parow , South Africa , for the manufacture of carriages and buses . Today the company is the oldest bus manufacturer in South Africa.

history

The two first attracted attention in 1952 when they made six replicas of the Zeederberg carriage for the 1952 Jan van Riebeeck Festival . To do this, the entrepreneurs measured the original, which is kept in the Johannesburg Museum , and made sketches and detailed construction plans for replication. The company quickly became known in South Africa and sold its vehicle across the country. The gold rush in some regions in particular contributed to this success.

When this boom ended in the early 1970s, the company stopped developing / producing its own vehicles and started assembling CKD kits based on MAN buses .

Since 2007, however, CKD kits for the 120 R have also been assembled on behalf of MCV . In 2011 the models Challenger 125 , Challenger 138 and Superior 140 , which are marketed as MAN, were added. The two emigrant sons Peter and Andre de Haan are currently running the company . In March 2010 the company was bought by the MCV Corporate Group and thus incorporated into the company. However, the company name still remains. The MCV 121 Sphinx has been around since 2013 . The Superior 140 has meanwhile been upgraded to the MCV S140 Challenger . The Challenger 125 has simply been renamed the S125.
