De Imperatoribus Romanis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

De Imperatoribus Romanis ( DIR ) is an online encyclopedia in English (although a few articles are in French), which was founded in 1996 and is run by specialists, dealing with the Roman emperors . The project is currently managed by Richard Weigel.

All emperors from Augustus onwards are listed, including the emperors of Eastern Europe until the fall of Constantinople in 1453 . Some other important persons associated with the respective emperors (such as empresses) are also listed. The individual biographies vary in length and quality. Some of them are very detailed, and further references (sometimes also sources) are always included. However, there are still considerable gaps: While the list of emperors was complete until the beginning of the 8th century, entries were missing for most of the emperors that followed. Some of the biographies are updated again and again. There is also a historical atlas and a cross-reference to a virtual coin catalog.
