The De Schelde S-21 was a fighter aircraft made by the Dutch manufacturer De Schelde .

history

Development of the S-21 began at the end of 1939. The almost finished prototype was found when the Wehrmacht took possession of the plant in May 1940 and transported to Germany for test purposes. So it remained with the unfinished prototype as the only copy.

The British press invented a German Fw 198 fighter in 1940–1942. Images of the S-21 were used as alleged evidence. Many sources incorrectly reference this.

construction

The S-21 was designed as a low-wing aircraft with double tail girders and a large-area glazed cockpit in the fuselage nacelle. It was powered by a Daimler-Benz engine with an output of around 750 kW, which acted on a thrust propeller. Four 7.92 mm MG FN Browning and one 23 mm MK Madsen were provided as armament.
