De iustitia in mundo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

De iustitia in mundo ( On justice in the world ) is the Latin title of one of the two documents of the Second Ordinary World Synod of Bishops in Rome , which took place between September 30th and November 6th, 1971 . It is also quoted from his incipit : Convenientes ex universo mundo (“Coming together from all over the world”). The theme of the synod was "The priestly service and justice in the world". The second document therefore deals with the ministerial priesthood and is entitled Ultimis temporibus .

De iustitia in mundo is one of the post-conciliar documents on the social doctrine of the Catholic Church . The synod built on the encyclical Populorum progressio (1967), on the pastoral constitution Gaudium et Spes of the Council of Vatican II (1965) and on the final documents of the II General Conference of the Bishops of Latin America (1968).

Concerns and statements

The document highlights the need for social justice in the action of the Church and Christians: “ Commitment to justice and participation in the transformation of the world appear to us to be an essential part of the proclamation of the Gospel and the mission of the Church for the salvation of men and women Liberation from any kind of oppression. "

Economic injustice, especially in poor countries, environmental protection problems and political injustice in totalitarian states are criticized. The peculiarity of the document is above all the highlighting of the inequality between the countries, as well as the demand for a right to progress for developing countries . The need for these peoples to take their fate in hand is emphasized: “ To the extent that the developing countries - even if they do not quite succeed - with a strong will to progress, take their future fate into their own hands, they make theirs Strange authentically clear. As a remedy against the injustice and inequality of today's social structures, a responsible national consciousness allows these peoples to seek their own being. "

The detailed description of some situations and the repeated mention of the "liberation of the oppressed" in the text shows the influence of the Third World views and the option for the poor . These sections of the document are mainly due to the contributions of the Peruvian Bishop Germán Schmitz .
