Dean Gallery

The Dean Gallery is an art gallery in Edinburgh , Scotland , and part of the National Galleries of Scotland . It opened in 1999, directly across from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art , the sister gallery of the Dean Gallery.

In 2011 the buildings were renamed Modern Art One and, accordingly, Modern Art Two . The Dean Gallery building was originally designed as an orphanage by architect Thomas Hamilton .

The later conversion of the house into a gallery was carried out by Terry Farrell . The Dean Gallery has shown the Paolozzi donation since it opened. In 1994 Sir Eduardo Paolozzi donated a selection of his collection to the Gallery of Modern Art.

It contains a large selection of Dadaist and Surrealist works of art and literature, with some works by the photographer Gabrielle Keiller . The Dean Gallery also frequently hosts temporary exhibitions.

A selection of the works of art on display are also available online.
