Dear Future Mom is a short film about people with Down syndrome . In the film, 15 young people with trisomy 21 answer an expectant mother why their life is worth living and what skills they have.

The umbrella organization of the Italian associations for people with Down syndrome produced the film on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day 2014. The trigger was an expectant mother who approached the organization with concern and wanted to know whether her child could be happy. Dear Future Mom was born in response . The film was viewed over seven million times on YouTube.

The film was also shown on television in different countries. In France, the supreme administrative court prohibited further broadcasting. Women who have terminated their pregnancies may feel guilty. This sparked a widespread debate about terminating pregnancies in diagnosed Down syndrome. Among other things, a petition was launched to lift the ban. To date, it has more than 6,000 supporters.

Awards

The work won six lions at the Festival of Creativity in Cannes.
