Deck line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The deck line is located amidships on the hull of seagoing vessels and indicates the height of the freeboard deck . It thus marks the intersection of the outwardly extended upper edge of the freeboard deck with the ship's side.

The horizontal line is 300 millimeters (12 inches) long and 25 millimeters (1 inch) wide.

The freeboard of a ship is measured from the upper edge of the deck line to the actual waterline or to the corresponding freeboard or loading marks.
