Coverage control

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The coverage check is a test method in which the complete coverage of a shot-peened surface with spherical caps is checked. The quality of the overlap is critical to the success of a shot peening process .

The coverage is the measure of the original surface, which was covered by spherical caps caused by shot peening . This coverage should not be less than 100%, as fatigue, stress or corrosion cracks can occur in the non-shot peened areas that do not have any compressive residual stresses.

Visual inspections with magnifying glasses or fluorescent liquids (e.g. Peenscan®), which are subjected to UV exposure after the blasting process , are used.
