Defantbank

The Defantbank is a bank in the Antarctic Weddell Sea . It is not far from the Luitpold coast of the Coatsland .
It was named at the suggestion of the surveyor and glaciologist Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute . It is named after the Austrian meteorologist and oceanographer Albert Defant (1884–1974), one of the founders of physical oceanography. The designation was confirmed in June 1997 by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF).
