Defective copy

A defective copy describes a book that has become defective in the manufacturing process.

This must be distinguished from the defective copy which was only damaged during storage or transport.

Defects can u. a. be

  • Cut error: uncut or incorrectly cut book block
  • wrong collation ( layers in wrong order, double / multiple or missing)
  • Issues in wrong order, duplicate / multiple or missing
  • Pages sticking together due to unclean work
  • Printing errors (in the technical sense, not spelling errors or the like)
  • incorrect binding (e.g. resulting curled paper)

Deliberate circumstances, such as the interim binding, are not to be counted as defective copies .
