Australian Geospatial Intelligence Organization

The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organization ( AGO ) is the Australian intelligence service for geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). The organization, based in Canberra, is part of the Australian Department of Defense .

The organization was created by cabinet order on November 8, 2000 as Defense Imagery and Geospatial Organization ( DIGO for short ) and united the Australian Imagery Organization , the Directorate of Strategic Military Geographic Information and the Defense Topographic Agency .

As of December 2, 2005, the task of the organization is determined by the Intelligence Services Act 2001 (ISA).

On May 5, 2013, the agency was renamed the Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organization by order of the Prime Minister and the Treasurer .

In addition to military intelligence, the Australian government also maintains the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, the domestic intelligence service .
