Defoid languages
Defoid languages or Defoid is a collective name for the groups of yoruboid languages , the acocoid languages (including Akoko ) and Ayere-Ahan (including Ayere and Ahan ).
These were earlier (for example Capo 1989) understood as a genetic subunit of the West Benue Congo languages . According to current knowledge, the three individual languages are not closely related to the Yoruboid languages (Williamson-Blench in Heine-Nurse 2000). As a result, Defoid is no longer common today as a term for a genetic unit.
Sometimes was Defoid also in the sense of Yoruboid used; However, this led to confusion with the originally defined Defoid.
